Talita Kum School* offers a chance of education to up to 40 children with special educational needs who would not be accepted or would struggle in the Colombian education system.

The school was founded fifteen years ago by Roberto Martignago who was then in charge of a rehabilitation school for street children, but who saw there was a need for disabled and disadvantaged children locally

Please read more about what the parents and teachers say about the school here.

Sonia giving a helping hand

The school is now run by Sonia Diaz with the support of another teacher, Amanda, and volunteers from the community. Below is just one of the quotes from testimonials – there are more here.

“My name is LEIDY BOLAÑOS I am the mother of MARIA ALEJANDRA ILES, who entered the Talita-kum Educational Center from the age of four and a half till transition, which allowed her to integrate and develop as a person and acquire knowledge that helped her to learn values such as respect, companionship, and love for others, especially children with special educational needs.”

*If you are wondering where the name Talita Kum comes from, it is an Aramaic  phrase meaning “arise little girl”. It is a quote attributed to Jesus in the New Testament when he takes Jairus’s daughter gently by the hand and raises her up.  However, Talita Kum School is a secular school and welcomes all religious and non-religious denominations.
