About the school
Talita Kum School receives no state funding and relies on our support to continue its work. We are looking for sponsors for the children at the school where our teachers, Sonia and Amanda, can offer them a chance in life they would not normally have as disabled and disadvantaged children living in Colombia.

The children pictured all have challenges: children like Briyith Estella who found drawing helped her with the loss of her father or Anderson Fernandes who has Cohen’s syndrome but wants to play guitar in an orchestra. Sponsor a child and get to know them and follow their progress in the school.
Talita Kum School Fund needs just £12,630 a year to run the school. But a little more would mean they could start to think of buying a printer, or musical instruments or even recruiting an extra teacher.
A monthly donation from a sponsor could make such a difference to these amazing children and to you as a sponsor, knowing more about a particular child and the school you are supporting. Every penny you give will be spent on the children. We have no overheads other than currency exchange fees.
Q&A
How does sponsorship work?
We ask you to commit to making a regular monthly financial donation by bank transfer or Direct Debit via GoCardless
How do you select the child I’ll sponsor?
We’ll assign one of the children at the school to you – one who doesn’t already have a sponsor.
If you would like to sponsor a child of a particular age or gender you can state a preference on the application form.
Do I have to sponsor a child or could I just donate monthly?
No, you don’t have to sponsor a child and of course you can donate monthly
Please click here for details
How is my money used?
The money you give will go direct to the school, rather than to your child or their family. It will be used to fund the day-to-day running costs of the school, thus benefiting all the children that the school supports.
Nearly 100% of what you donate goes to the school. Our only costs are bank transaction costs.
How much does sponsorship cost?
We ask you to donate whatever you can per month. Please see our list above of suggested amounts.
If you are able to give us permission to claim Gift Aid, this adds 25p for every £1.00 you give.
What happens when I sponsor a child?
- When you sign up – we will send you:
- a photo of your child
- a profile of your child, explaining their background
- A letter with background information about the school
- Twice a year
- A personal message (usually a hand-drawn picture) from your child
- Once a year you will receive:
- A report from the school on how your child is doing.
- A group school photo
- An update from the UK charity on how funds have been spent in the last 12 months.
Since resources at the school are limited and staff time is devoted to working with the children, all communication with you will be handled by our charity volunteers in the UK, and by email.
Can I contact my child/the school direct?
Unfortunately there can be no direct contact with children. As a registered charity we are responsible for the safeguarding of the children and direct contact is precluded.
